The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's best robot vacuum cleaner and mop that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. Finally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums best vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
