1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots we tested. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might come across. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning the area where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint smart robot Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

The main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. As CR's tests have shown, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a typical battery-powered cordless best auto vacuum's run time. That's still enough run time to clean most of an average-sized house however, it's not enough to clean every spot (though an additional run-through often will suffice). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our tests, and often goes over the same areas several times to give a thorough clean smart robot. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before making it back to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has less parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and more. The app is easy to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and dustbin can be cleaned for quick, easy cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the bin clean and optimizes suction power.

The app also lets you to customize the LED lights on top of the vacuum with different colors so you can easily identify the areas where it's focused or where it's got stuck.

The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for instance, has a darkly-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border without registering it as an incline. The ability to set up a weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
