The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles, and wash them when required. Some models will also empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot cleaner robot vacuum that mops vacuum for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the automatic vacuum cleaner's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
