WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which displays an item upgrade's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Crests

The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
